Description
Lorenzo Mendizábal Iturrarte was shot dead by ETA at 5:50 pm in the town of Irún (Gipuzkoa), while he was working in the Biona butcher’s shop which he co-owned. Two armed terrorists entered the shop and shot Lorenzo in front of his customers and a shop assistant. He was hit in the lungs, heart and liver and died at the Red Cross hospital in Irún. The killers got away in a stolen taxi in which a third individual was waiting.
Before escaping, the assassins took the handbag of one of the customers in the butcher’s shop, probably intending to take her national identity card, a common practice in some ETA attacks.
