Description
Javier Jáuregui Bernaola was the local magistrate of the town of Lemona (Vizcaya). On 8 July 1978, he was assassinated by ETA in his family’s bar. Javier was serving in the bar when two terrorists with masked faces came in and asked him if he was Javier Jáuregui. He answered that he was and tried to calm the situation, but they shot him four times from point-blank range in the chest and once in the arm, killing him instantly.
Prior to the attack, Jáuregui had told close acquaintances that he had received threats from ETA, especially by telephone.
