On the morning of 29 July 1979, the political-military faction of the terrorist organisation ETA sowed panic among the population of Madrid with a series of attacks at Barajas Airport and Chamartín and Atocha rail stations, killing seven people and wounding nearly a hundred others.
At 1.15 pm, barely fifteen minutes after the first bomb exploded in Barajas, and five minutes after the second explosion in Chamartín, a third bomb went off in a suitcase in the left luggage office at Atocha station. As a result, four people were killed and another forty were wounded. One of those killed was Guadalupe Redondo Vian, aged 59. At the moment of the explosion, she was with her husband, Dionisio Gonzalo Rey Amez, who died four days later, and their daughter, Carmen Rey Redondo who survived with serious injuries.
