Francisco Arín Urcola

Description

Francisco Arín Urcola had received a number of letters demanding money, which he refused to pay. He had even contacted the extortionists on several occasions to explain that he did not have the sums they were asking for. Around 7 pm on 15 December 1983, three unmasked armed terrorists came to his home to get him. They put him in the boot of his vehicle and to the motorway junction in the town of Irura, where they dumped his body.

The kidnappers had warned his wife and children to wait for two hours before reporting the incident. When a Civil Guard patrol asked them if anything had happened, they answered no, but the civil guards did not believe them. A few minutes later they received a call telling them that Francisco’s body had been found.
