Description
Cristobal Díaz García was on guard duty at the entrance to the police station in Santuchu, Bilbao. Although he had completed his shift, the other officer on duty had asked him to take over for a moment. A member of ETA shot him from about 200 metres away using a rifle with telescopic sights. Cristobal Díaz died an hour later on the operating table. The day after the murder, the Unified Police Union (Sindicato Unificado de Policía) issued a statement denouncing the lack of bulletproof vests at the police station in Santuchu.
