Description

Antonio Fernández Guzmán was on his way from his home to the port of Santurce, where he worked as a forklift driver. At the intersection of Calle Capitán Mendizábal and Calle Juan XXIII, two individuals shot him four times in the neck and thorax, killing him instantly. The terrorists fled in a car that they had stolen shortly before, in which a third ETA member was waiting for them.

While the police were still checking the body, one of the victim’s brothers passed by and saw the body lying on the ground. It was the first he had heard of the killing.

Eight months before the attack, anonymous leaflets had appeared in the port of Santurce accusing Antonio Fernández of being a police informer. Although the accusations were false, ETA nonetheless murdered the worker.
