Description
Ramón Bañuelos Echeverría was about to start up his car, which was parked in front of his home in the Churdinaga district of Bilbao, when a bomb went off, killing him instantly. Several ETA members had attached an explosive device to the underbody of his vehicle. The explosion also damaged a van which the victim’s wife and children had just got into.
ETA accused the victim of being a police collaborator and of being linked to drug trafficking. Ignacio Bañuelos Lasso, the victim’s cousin, was murdered by ETA barely a year later, on 15 November 1989.
