Every morning, at the same time, officer Pablo Sánchez César walked the same way to the station to take the train to the police headquarters in San Sebastián. On the day of the attack, he noticed three suspicious-looking individuals approaching him and tried to take cover in the station building. However, the terrorists opened fire and the officer —who was unarmed and in civilian clothes at the time— was hit by a number of rounds from a submachine gun. He was then shot in the head by one of the terrorists, who was unmasked.
