Description
Civil Guard Luis Miranda Blanco was killed by ETA on 5 July 1981. The attack took place at half past six in the morning, when ETA’s Donosti unit opened fire on the official car in which Luis Miranda and his fellow civil guard José Paradero were travelling on the N-I national road in Lezo (Guipúzcoa). José Paradero was seriously wounded in the attack, but survived.
The terrorists had been waiting for the officers behind a wall about two metres high at Alto de Gainchurizqueta. When they saw the Civil Guard traffic patrol car appear, they shot at it and fled, despite the fact that a few metres behind was another unmarked Civil Guard vehicle, intended precisely to protect against possible attacks.
