Jesús Miguel Haddad Blanco, the Director General of Penitentiary Institutions, was shot close to his home as he was waiting for his official car to take him to work, as it did each morning. When the car arrived, three GRAPO members, armed with pistols and machine guns, pushed the driver out of the way and shot Jesús Miguel Haddad, killing him instantly. His funeral was held the next day in the parish church of Villalba de Adaja. After the service, his widow said to Landelino Lavilla, the Minister for Justice,”Watch out, look what happened to Jesús”.
