Description
At 6.30 am on 27 June 1983 nurse Angelines Avizanda bumped into her neighbour, Jesús Blanco Cereceda, in the entrance of the block where they both lived at No. 36 Avenida de Bayona. Jesús, who was the head of communications at Pamplona’s Noáin Airport, offered to help her with the bags of clothes she was carrying. They were surprised to see a man wearing a felt hat, mirror shades and a strange moustache. “What a strange young man!”, exclaimed Angelines. Almost immediately, the man ran towards Jesús Blanco and shot him three times from point-blank range. He died moments later. The terrorist escaped in a Simca 1200 which was waiting nearby, with another two accomplices.
