Description
Two units of the National Police were returning from duty at the football pitch in Santurce. As the convoy was driving along the road linking the Cabieces district to the ramp leading to the Bilbao motorway, a truck bomb parked on the kerb, containing 100 kilograms of ammonal and 200 kilograms of shrapnel, was detonated remotely and exploded. The second vehicle took the full impact of the blast. Despite the armour-plating, José Francisco Hernández and Daniel López Tizón were killed instantly.
