Shortly before 9:45 pm two young men carrying sports bags asked the janitor at the centre to let them in so that they could prepare for a sporting event. Commander Miguel Rodriguez Fuentes, who also taught vocational education in Pasajes, had finished giving his lessons. As he was getting into his car, two individuals with sports bags approached him and opened fire on him, fatally injuring him. According to his colleagues, he was hit at least three times in the head. The janitor tried to help, but was unable to do anything.
An hour after Miguel Rodríguez Fuentes’s death, his cousin Ángel Astuy Rodríguez, was also killed by ETA in Oñate.
