Une unit\u00e9 de la Guardia Civil fut envoy\u00e9e sur les lieux, compos\u00e9e d\u2019une brigade de d\u00e9sactivation d\u2019explosifs prot\u00e9g\u00e9e par une patrouille du Groupe d\u2019action rurale et une autre unit\u00e9 du poste de la Guardia Civil d\u2019Alegr\u00eda. Les assassins avaient plac\u00e9 une bombe sur les voies ferr\u00e9es pour servir de leurre tandis qu\u2019une seconde charge explosive avait \u00e9t\u00e9 cach\u00e9e sur un sentier entour\u00e9 de buissons et \u00e9loign\u00e9 de la bombe leurre. Un train de passagers \u00e9tait arr\u00eat\u00e9 sur la voie en attendant que les sp\u00e9cialistes d\u00e9terminent si la bombe \u00e9tait r\u00e9elle ou non.<\/p>\n<p>Alors qu\u2019ils inspectaient les voies en direction de l\u2019endroit o\u00f9 la bombe \u00e9tait cens\u00e9e se trouver, l\u2019un des agents tomba sur un fil fin cach\u00e9 dans les buissons qui, avec le d\u00e9tonateur, d\u00e9clencha la charge de la bombe pi\u00e9g\u00e9e plac\u00e9e sur le talus lat\u00e9ral et qui contenait environ huit kilos de Goma 2. L\u2019explosion fut tr\u00e8s violente et atteignit huit agents de la Guardia Civil. Agust\u00edn David Pascual Jove mourut sur place. Ses coll\u00e8gues Victoriano Collado Arribas et le sergent Jos\u00e9 Luis Veiga P\u00e9rez p\u00e9rirent \u00e9galement.<\/p>\n<p>La m\u00eame m\u00e9thode fut utilis\u00e9e par l\u2019ETA \u00e0 Hernani en 2009 mais \u00e0 cette occasion avec des cons\u00e9quences moins graves puisque les agents de la Ertzaintza avaient surv\u00e9cu \u00e0 l\u2019attentat.
