Tarte horretan 13 lehergailuetatik 10-k eztanda egin zuten eta, guztira, 191 pertsona erail zituzten. Gutxi gora-behera beste 1.500 pertsona ere zaurituak suertatu ziren. Espainiako historiako atentaturik latzena izan zen. Egun batzuk geroago, 2004ko apirilak 3an, Poliziako GEO taldeko kideei Legan\u00e9s udalerriko etxe batera sartzea agindu zieten atentatuaren arduradunak han ezkutatzen omen bait ziren. Terroristek bere buruaz beste egin zuten 20 kiloko lehergailuak eztandaraziz.
