According to eye-witnesses, on the corner of Mesonero Romanos Street, a man of Arab appearance shot him in the back at close range. The assailant took advantage of the commotion and the large numbers of people in the area to get away. The young man, aged 24, was admitted to the Francisco Franco Hospital, where he underwent surgery but died some hours later.
