In the attack, carried out from the Bilbao-Behovia motorway, Armed Police Corporal Jos\u00e9 Benito S\u00e1nchez and guardsman first class Benjam\u00edn Sancho Lejido were both killed.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The attack also caused diverse injuries to a young man waiting at a bus stop outside the barracks and to 16 other officers: Leocadio Arenas Galicia, Isaac Javier Bacarizo Bueno, Eusebio Calvo Pujol, Eduardo Casta\u00f1o Justel, Fernando Cort\u00e9s Legaz, Jos\u00e9 Manuel Erguita Moreno, Jos\u00e9 Falc\u00f3n Quintero, Fernando Ferrer Conejero, Luis Jodra Benito, Francisco Laplaza Cortes, \u00c1ngel Moreno Cantisano, Esteban Rodr\u00edguez Salda\u00f1a, Jos\u00e9 Ruiz \u00c1lvarez, Jos\u00e9 Luis Sanz Barco, Juan Jos\u00e9 Tom\u00e1s Marteles and Antonio Vaguena Gracia.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The terrorists fired down on the sports ground from a vantage point on the hard shoulder of the motorway. Although the sentries returned fire, none of the assailants was hit and they managed to get away.
