Description

“Don’t go out, don’t go out, they’re coming for you!”, shouted Pilar Alcaide Gómez, wife of Municipal Police Officer Bienvenido Romero García Montejos as her husband was about to leave for work. Her suspicions had been raised by two individuals she saw getting out of a car with a shotgun and heading towards the main door of their home. They were members of GRAPO. The neighbours heard them shouting and proffering insults against the victim, followed by a number of shots. When Pilar Alcaide opened the main door of the building, she found her husband lying on the ground in a pool of blood. The officer, aged 55 and father of two children, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Primero de Octubre Hospital.
