Antonio López Carrera and his wife were in the habit of dining once a week at the same bar in Sondica, where they would have roast chicken, before going home. That day, López’s wife left her sweater at the bar and her husband returned to pick it up. Having retrieved the garment, he returned home. Three ETA terrorists were waiting for him. They machine-gunned him from behind and then got away in a stolen car.
Before his retirement, Antonio López had worked at the Astilleros Españoles shipyard in Olabeaga and had previously been a member of Franco’s Guard. He had also received death threats.
The victim was returning home after dining in a restaurant when he was machine-gunned in the back. He was hit seven times by 9-millimetre Parabellum bullets and killed instantly.
